Towards an Effective Design for Nollywood Films: An Appraisal of Design Concepts in Select Nollywood Films

The aesthetics of stage and film productions are most evident in the designs for such productions. Design unquestionably helps in the delineation of a play’s meaning and in furthering the audiences’ understanding of a production. In film, as is evident in Nollywood, designers employ a variety of forms in an attempt to interpret a script and make it more acceptable to the audience. While a few have scored some artistic points in their visual interpretations quite a good number have had some design shortcomings. This paper attempts an appraisal of scenic designs in select Nollywood films with a view of evaluating their appropriateness to the theme of the production and will proffer solutions towards an effective design for Nollywood films.
